Series: Maddie Bean # 4
2001

Maddie Bean doesnąt like surprises. Whan her partner Wes finds a surprise...a mah-jongg set ...hidden in an old house he is remodeling, it opens the door for many more surprises.

The set is stolen. Someone dies. Past indiscretions are discovered. Madelaine puzzles over possible answers as she cooks delicious foods for the Chinese New Year. Hollywood types from directors to aging film stars play mah-jongg.

Some cozies, especially cooking-related, are just mindless fluff. This book is rich with Los Angeles and film history, Chinese lore, a bit of philosphy and lots of fun. Maddie is someone you will want to meet again.

And again.
