A somewhat muddled offering. The story centers on a journalist on the staff of an alternative newspaper in Madison, Wisconsin. John Hartway is an ex-con, a survivor of a prison riot, plagued with unpleasant memories and attempting to return to a productive role in society.

Fietzer doesn't have an easy time keeping the flow of action clear to the reader. Issues involving freedom of speech, care of the indigent and mentally disturbed, the sinister activities of a prison based cult, a mysterious car with state government plates are all part of the mix.
