Let’s start out by clarifying that this is not a book about a man dressing like a woman, though with Fitzhugh’s sense of humor that wouldn’t be a surprise. This book is about Dan Steele. Dan is an ad -executive who is, well, he’s a jerk. He is living beyond his means, and doesn’t mind a few lies to get ahead. Dan’s Mother is in a retirement home and seems to dislike taking her meds. This leads to plenty of problems. And to round it out, Dan’s twin brother, a priest with a few problems, comes home from Africa, with no money and no where to stay.

Through a strange series of events Dan’s life is turned upside down. He is doing things he never pictured himself doing. And watching the changes is a riot. Plus an insight into the church, while maybe fictitious, is truly inspired.

The characters in Fitzhugh’s books are always wonderful, and this is no exception. And the story is a wild ride. I loved this book.
