In Carmel, California, Molly Doyle runs an upscale antique shop. She lives with a young niece Emma. Molly has taken on the job of decorating the tasting room of a prominent local winery. However the family is dysfunctional at best, and Carlašs husband turns out to have a past. But his present behavior is enough to get him killed. Molly and friend police chief Randall end up in the thick of things.

Molly Doyle carries a lot of baggage, hinted at but seldom satisfactorily explained. The story has many references to past problems slowing it down while only confusing the reader. A character named Bitsy obviously plays a significant part in the life of Molly and Emma, but we are never told who she is or what the relationship might be. For those who have read every book in the series in order, this may be a satisfactory book in spite of iffy plotting, but I just found it disappointing.
