Hannah Swenson is the unmarried 30 year old owner of a small local bakery. She has a cat named Moishe, two sisters, Michelle and Andrea, and two (or is it three?) boyfriends. If this isn¹t enough to keep her busy, she has agreed to be a judge of baked goods at the Tri-County Fair. Michelle is in the pageant for fair queen, Andrea hopes to win the mother-daughter look-alike contest, while their mom is has bullied Hannah into sitting in the dunking booth. How could she?

Family dynamics and Moishe¹s strange behavior distract her as Mike and Norman vie for her attention. And one night, caught late at the fairgrounds, Hannah hears a murder being committed. Her sleuthing abilities are about to kick in.

Joanne Fluke writes a cozy filled with fun characters. At times she seems unnecessarily obsessed with grammar, but the book is mostly fun. Recipes are included for nearly every baked goodie mentioned, including deep-fried Milky Ways, should you be inclined to try them.
