Hannah Swenson is the unmarried 30 year old owner of a small local bakery. She has a cat named Moishe, two sisters, Michelle and Andrea, and two (or is it three?) boyfriends. If this isnšt enough to keep her busy, she has agreed to be a judge of baked goods at the Tri-County Fair. Michelle is in the pageant for fair queen, Andrea hopes to win the mother-daughter look-alike contest, while their mom is has bullied Hannah into sitting in the dunking booth. How could she?

Family dynamics and Moishešs strange behavior distract her as Mike and Norman vie for her attention. And one night, caught late at the fairgrounds, Hannah hears a murder being committed. Her sleuthing abilities are about to kick in.

Joanne Fluke writes a cozy filled with fun characters. At times she seems unnecessarily obsessed with grammar, but the book is mostly fun. Recipes are included for nearly every baked goodie mentioned, including deep-fried Milky Ways, should you be inclined to try them.
