Of all the books in the series, this is my favorite so far (I'm reading them in order). When Jacob Chandler dies, Benni inherits his estate including a home, its furnishings, and his dog on condition that she live in the house alone for 2 weeks. During that time the deceased sends Benni on a scavenger hunt, and of course she has to solve a murder along the way. This tale brings a lot of new elements to the series, a new locale, new characters, new relationships, and lots of changes to the life of Bennie and and her husband chief Ortiz to keep the series fresh. I think it was the coziest so far in the series focusing a great deal on home and family and with a reduction in the angst so prevalent in previous books. She really had me hooked in the story line. At the end of the book I just wanted to grab the next one in the series and keep right on going. What happens next!!
