Diana Hunter [PI] makes it a habit to check out potential clients thoroughly, but this one gets past her usual checks. He wants her to check on the facts for a novelist before the book goes to print. How hard can that be, right? Curiosity wins out this time, and Diana accepts the first chapter of a science fiction novel called "The Martian Diaries".

With an unprovoked attack and a sudden death, Diana quickly finds herself calling for reinforcements. With disguises, phoney IDs, robots and computers, the trail covers the Southwest and the Carribean. There are 'three-letter-agencies' environmentalists, and not a few crackpots involved, too.

This book caught me by surprise. It's an odd mix of science fiction and mystery . . . I think. However it's classified, it was actually quite a fun read. I still haven't decided just how far-fetched it might be, or if the author is putting us all on, undoubtedly with a smile while doing it. It will be fascinating to see where this series goes next!
