The book contains a widely diverse and complex cast of characters who find themselves connected by the hauntingly beautiful, graceful and mysterious Laura Finnegan. Their lives are forever changed when Laura disappears and a pair of severed arms wash up on the beach. Reggie Brooks, part-time martial arts instructor and full-time Los Angeles homicide detective is a man with a mission – he won’t rest until he finds out what happened to his student.

I must admit that while reading Good Morning, Darkness, I kept thinking how much I disliked books in which the ending was all too clear from the beginning but was pleasantly surprised by some delicious plot twists toward the end. While I didn’t find the denouement very satisfying, I imagine that Ruth Francisco’s characters’ actions were more true to life than an ending I might have found more agreeable. All in all, this was a quick and enjoyable read.
