Is crime cultural? Does only America have serial killers? This appealing new novel from Brazil asks those questions among others.

Policemen are dying in Rio. Not the high profile crime busters, but quiet types that seem to have few enemies. The connection isnıt apparent but this is obviously the work of one killer. And who is next?

Precinct chief Inspector Espinosa has the task of solving these crimes while knowing that other policemen may be involved in whatever unpleasantness has caused these deaths. The novel gives a solid view of the streets of Rio. There is much eating of falafel and spaghetti and even the occasional visit to McDonalds. Even Brazilian police visit fast food places. The book loving Inspector Espinosa is a great addition to fictionıs introspective detectives.
