This story's setting is in Brazil. At times, I forgot I was reading about a story set in Brazil because the writing and sense of place was very similiar to Andrea Camilleri's series set in Sicily, Italy. Both series focus on a police officer who lives alone and is habituated to living alone. Both men have a love relationship with a woman whom they see infrequently and both men relish this type of relationship. Both men have staff under them. Both live in hot and beach oriented places. Food plays a role in both series. So, the similiarities at times led to some confusion for me, albiet an enjoyable confusion as I have liked both protagonists and the plotlines.

In this story, three policemen were murdered, as well as two of their mistresses. The third mistress is in hiding, fearful that she will be the next victim. The entire story is a whodonit, with unexpected twists and turns.

I liked this book-and recommend it.
