High school reunions can bring out mixed emotions in most everyone and Evan Delaney is no different. When Evan returns to China Lake for her 15-year high school reunion she tries to chicken out and refuse to go in but Jesse Blackburn, her lover and friend, shames her into facing her old friends and classmates.

Evan is shocked to find out that a number of her classmates are now deceased. Another of her classmates is brutally murdered on the night of the class reunion. Although the deaths seem unconnected Evan begins to feel that somehow the deaths are connected to past events in China Lake.

China Lake is a desert military base where her father was stationed when Evan was growing up. Evan begins dwelling on past happenings during her high school years and her mind keeps going back to a field trip where Evan along with some of her other classmates wandered away from the group and happened upon a military experiment. Could the deaths be connected to this event? Evan is determined to find out and her detecting not only uncovers events that are horrifying but puts Evan, Jesse and everyone connected to her in danger.

China Lake is an interesting place but I’m glad it is not my hometown. I do intend to read more about Evan and her friends and family. Jesse Blackburn is a wonderful character who although confined to a wheelchair seems to be able to do anything he sets his mind to doing.
