What a fun departure! Leslie Glass has given April Woo the book off to write a mystery featuring Long Island matriarch Cassandra Sales. Husband Mitch is a wine importer. Cassie cooks and gardens. Having hit fifty recently Cassie decides to get a face lift and surprise Mitch upon his homecoming. When Mitch returns early from abroad he is indeed surprised by his wife’s appearance. Falls over, stroke, coma...

Cassie begins making decisions for the first time in her almost thirty year marriage. Seems Mitch was a rotten scoundrel and the kids, still snotty even in their twenties. The family doctor? He’s a duplicitous bastard and don’t get me started on the creepy lawyer. Many things have been kept from Cassie over the years and she has limited time to try and fix them all. Not a traditional mystery but an engaging caper book that leaves one wondering how bad is life if the only honest person you know is an IRS agent OVER HIS DEAD BODY was a nice change of pace from Glass’s procedural. I hope she had as much fun writing it as I did reading it.
