In 1947 Thuro, England, wealthy Joshua Carnowitz is murdered. His heir Michael Lanyon is convicted and hung for killing his mentor. Instead of the Lanyon's inheriting Joshua's vast wealth, the Napier family prospers from the man's death.

Thirty-four years later, Michael's son Nicholas visits his childhood friend, Chris Napier, who he has not seen since that fatal day in 1947. Nicholas is disheveled and seems to be somewhat disturbed. However, he asks Chris to find out who really murdered his father. The next day, Nicholas apparently commits suicide on the same property where his father allegedly killed his benefactor. Chris, who never accepted one penny of Joshua's money, begins to investigate what happened in 1947 (and the present) because he feels compelled to honor the last wish of his one time buddy. However, Chris may find the truth to be something that he can not deal with if it hits too close to home.

BEYOND RECALL is an exciting and unique who-done-it that is rich with interesting characters and, as an added bonus, contains a very absorbing story line. The intrepid Chris is a wonderful lead protagonist whose philosophy of doing it his way regardless of the cost should endear him to readers. Robert Goddard scribes an intelligent mystery that should please fans of the British mystery.
