New York PI Lenny Schneider is hired by Lou Goffin to stop his elderly Uncle Solomon from killing a former Auschwitz Guard and a slimy stool pigeon who are living in America under false identities. Things get complicated when it becomes clear that Uncle Solomon is not the only one after the despicable pair. I really enjoyed this book. Despite the rather grim premise, and the sad history behind it, it’s funny and warm with some great characters - particularly Lenny who’s like a cross between Philip Marlowe and the Marx Brothers. This is the first in the series. I read the second some time ago and didn’t find it quite as good as this one, which has made me determined to seek out more by this author.
