Suspicious things begin happening in Eastport, Maine. Jake’s son, Sam, and his girlfriend are in a car accident. Then her husband, Wade, just misses blowing his head off when working on a gun. Thank goodness her ex-husband Victor, former brain surgeon, is running the clinic in town.

Jake and her friend Ellie begin to realize everything started with Harriet Hollingsworth’s strange disappearance. When they discover she left behind her prized possession, they are convinced she didn’t leave of her own accord. Convincing police chief Bob Arnold is another matter.

When another “accident” leaves an Eastport visitor dead, Jake and Ellie start investigating. Harry Markle, an ex-New York City cop, from Jake’s past has a theory a killer he’s been hunting for years has followed him to Eastport. He enlists Jake and Ellie’s help in tracking down this killer. There are so many people to investigate. Jake fell off a ladder and is having trouble with ringing ears and dizziness, but she isn’t letting this stop her.

One person that she is especially curious about is Lian Ash who has shown up out of the blue to help Jake with some home repairs. Granted, Jake and Wade’s house needs repair. But, his just showing up at the house when she put up a note looking for a repairman, makes Jake very suspicious.

Can they figure out who the killer is without becoming his next victim?

I love this series. Jake and Ellie are great together. I keep wanting to turn the page to see what will happen next! The Eastport townspeople are terrific, too. I especially like books set in New England, and the author has created a place I’d love to visit!

This is a fun, well-written mystery. Kept me wondering ‘til near the end who the killer was. It moves at a great pace as well.

I highly recommend this book!
