Kate Grilley
Class/Genre:   Mystery

Grilley won awards for this pleasant little cozy - set in a fictional island in the Caribbean. Kelly Ryan works for a small radio station. Recovering from a recent divorce, she has made good friends in the little community of permanent residents, and participates in the ongoing traditions and events - planning parades, protecting sea turtles, and so on.

When a woman who has recently moved to the island is found dead on the beach impaled with a poisoned spear, all the locals are startled and apprehensive. In a refreshing change from standard cozy plot lines, Ryan is not romantically involved with the local police chief, in fact she has a pleasant reciprocal working relationship with him as everyone tries to sort out what is going on.

But there is romance in the air, along with some danger. Grilley lives in the US Virgin Islands, and she includes quite a few interesting tidbits of island history and island life, all of which are pleasant additions to the basic story.
