Seventh-Inning Stretch features Jake Hines, who is trying to adjust to his new role as Chief of Detectives. Crime had been relatively slow in town so Jake hands out cold cases to his officers to begin looking for something that might have been missed. Than a group of grifters hit Rutherford, Minnesota, causing havoc and two bodies are found in an alley stuffed into a trashcan. To make matters worse, the trashcan the bodies are stuffed in was removed from the property of one of Jake’s officers, Bo Dooley and his drug-addicted wife.
Jake and his significant other, Trudy Hanson, crime scene tech for the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension have also purchased an old farmhouse in need of numerous repairs. So Jake tries to step back, supervise and let his officers do their jobs and tries to figure out a way to get the repairs needed done without financially breaking them.
This was the first Jake Hines mystery I have had the pleasure of reading. Will be looking for previous installments to see what I have missed and also look forward to future installments in the Jake Hines series. I found this to be a good quick read with fascinating characters that I would like to get to know better.
