Class/Genre:   Mystery   Police Procedural
Series: Jake Hines # 5

Sixth book in the Jake Hines series, and I hope there will be more to come. Jake Hines has recently been promoted to chief of detectives and since the crime rate in his hometown has been at a new low, he had hopes for solving some of the older cold cases. This goal rapidly changes when two corpses are discovered in a trashcan behind a local restaurant.

The various personalities of Jake’s crew bring together an interesting group of people to solve this case. During the course of the investigation you will be introduced to Trudy, the love of Jake’s life, and an interesting sidebar is introduced to solve the problems of the remodeling of the old farmhouse they have purchased. The crime leaves you guessing with clues taking a lot of side roads to finally come to the conclusion.

Elizabeth Gunn is from Minnesota and just what I’ve read of this series reminds me of the Victoria Houston books (another Minnesota author). This book is not one I would have grabbed off the bookshelf but after reading it I will buy the rest of the series and recommend it to friends.
