Triple Play is the first in the Jake Hines series. Jake is police officer in a town just outside Minneapolis/St. Paul area and recently divorced.

The first victim is found on home plate in a neighborhood park. The victim wore an old softball uniform. His body had been disfigured to the point where even the police officers very much used to violence were shocked.

When a second victim is found in an old softball uniform Jake begins to think a serial killer is on the loose in his town. Before the investigation is finished a third victim is found dead. His death leads to the identity of murderer and the reason for the vicious crimes.

You will meet Adrian Pokornoskovic, the county coroner, nicknamed Pokey who will appear in later Jake Hines books.

When Jake calls in the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension in St. Paul to help with the investigation he meets Trudy Hanson a photographer for the BCA. Jake thinks that romance once again might become a part of his life as he watches Trudy carry out her duties.

The characters in Elizabeth Gunn’s books are interesting and the story winds up with an interesting twist that comes, at least to me, as a complete surprise. I look forward to finding the rest of the Elizabeth Gunn Jake Hines series.
