Contrary to the title, there are scenes in this book which are laugh out loud funny.

Nick Madrid is a journalist covering a convention of comedians, with writers, publicists and agents also in attendance. But the activities of the convention are rather quickly marred by a series of deaths. Nick and some of his journalist friends begin a sort of investigation.

Although overall the book is a reasonably enjoyable read, the comedic sections outshine the murder investigations, which are a repetitive series of interviews, followed by some travel, followed by more interviews, and so on.
