This is the first in the Ben Franklin series. Although I had read a later one already which means I knew somethings that were intended to be a suprise in this volume, it didn't take away from my enjoyment of the story. It appeared to be well researched and winds an intriguing fictional mystery around known facts of Mr. Franklins life. It also makes him a more flesh and blood type historical figure. Set in the years Franklin lived in London, representing interests in Pennsylvania there is the element of politics of the times to keep it interesting. Of course London in those years had some darn seamy elements which filter into the story too. Overall a good picture of life in those times, and a well plotted tales based on life and attitudes in those years.
