Meg Harris lives in a beautiful wilderness of West Quebec called Three Deer Point. Her home is a rambling Victorian cottage inherited from her great-aunt Agatha Harris. She is divorced from Gareth and the parting left Meg with many bad memories. Sergei, Meg’s dog, shares her home with her and loves to wander through the trees and chase the deer that come close to the cottage.
Marie is an employee as well as a good friend to Meg. She is a member of the Migiskan tribe. There is a lot of history connecting Marie’s family and Meg’s.
Suddenly the peace of the wilderness is shattered by the intrusion of the CanacGold, a mining company that has no care for environmental issues that is attempting to stake a claim on Whispers Island. Meg and her friends on the Migiskan Reserve attempt to fight the hunt for gold but there are people working on the side of the mining company. Meg’s ex-husband turns out to be one of the people working for CanacGold.
Soon tragedy strikes the area and death comes to the quiet wilderness area. It becomes imperative to find the true owner of Whisper Island. The search reveals some astonishing secrets kept hidden for years by her Aunt Aggie.
The setting described in Death’s Golden Whisper sounds like a perfect retreat from the world if the lure of gold had not proved too big a temptation to white man and Indian alike.
