Dead to the World by Charlaine Harris is the third in the Sookie Stackhouse Southern Vampire Series. While I enjoyed this book, I was saddened by the lack of newness and spark enjoyed in the first book. You can only be new and novel once, I suppose! That said, this book is an enjoyable romp into Sookie's Louisiana world of vamps, shape changers and witches.

In this story, Sookie's brother is missing and Erik the Sheriff of the Shreveport Vampires has amnesia. How these problems are resolved is the heart of the story. A very spicy relationship is had by Sookie and Erik, added in the mix is a bittersweet realization of the temporary nature of this tryst.

One problem I had with this book is the amount of time the author used to set up the story, and to provide the background. It seemed like half the book was used this way and then the second was for the resolution and tying up of the plots.

Overall, I liked this book, but wonder if there should be a fourth.
