This follow-up for “Dead until Dark” is a tale told by Sookie Stackhouse, a bartender at Sam Merlotte’s Louisiana bar who leads a fairly normal human existence. Except she’s a telepath, her boyfriend, Bill, is a vampire and Sam is a shape shifter. In this world, not too different from our own, it has become an accepted fact that vampires and the like move about in the human world, consuming synthetic blood and obeying human laws.....for the most part. When the latest cook at Sam’s bar is found dead, she is drawn into a dangerous world of sex, lies and maenads. No videotape, but more action than you could shake a stake at.

An excellent, humorous break from standard mystery and horror books.
