Donald Harstad
Class/Genre:   Mystery   Police Procedural
Series: Carl Houseman # 5

In A Long December Donald Harstad has written another winner. Rural Nation County, Iowa has not escaped the problems affecting the rest of the world. Illegal aliens, terrorists, murder all find their way to this not really quiet farm country. And Deputy Sheriff Carl Houseman has to work with multiple agencies while juggling a tight budget, lack of sleep, disappearing witnesses and cold.

This story is told from two angles. While we learn the chronological tale from beginning to end, we are also caught up in a terrifying situation on an isolated farm as Houseman and friends are pinned down, outmanned and outgunned. Do the good guys prevail? Well, as always it is the journey, not the destination. Harstad takes us for a wild ride. Who knew frosty remote Iowa could be so much fun?
