...

When Carl Houseman catches petty thief Fred Grothler acting suspiciously, it soon becomes clear that Grothler is more worried about the fact that he dropped his cousins off to burgle a local farm a couple of days ago, and hasn’t seen them since, than he is about getting arrested. The farmhouse was supposed to be empty, its inhabitants away on vacation - what on earth could have gone wrong? The answer is - everything. As with the two previous books in the series, Harstad draws the reader in with a wonderful description as you accompany Carl on his first look at the crime scene. The scene is described in minute detail, yet Harstad still manages to maintain the tension. I felt as though I were walking closely behind Carl, taking in everything he sensed.
