Sophie Greenway, full-time restaurant critic for the Minneapolis Times Register and owner of the Maxfield Plaza, has a nose for murder. When businessman Ken Loy is gunned down while riding his bike and the owner of the Minneapolis Times Register, Bob Fabian, is murdered at home a short time later, Sophie is convinced the crimes are linked. As it turns out, Ken Loy had been behind the wheel of the car that crashed into Fabian's wife's car just the year before, killing her. If Ken Loy's murder is a simple case of revenge, why is Bob Fabian murdered? Sophie finds herself with more questions than answers, especially when it becomes known that a scandal has been brewing at Bob Fabian's newspaper.
There are several subplots that help keep the reader slightly off balance. I have a little trouble accepting that a strong, independent woman like Sophie could ever find herself in such a predicament with an ex-boyfriend, but other than that the story is suspenseful and believable.
This was my first taste of Ellen Hart's culinary mystery series; I look forward to devouring the rest!
