Joe Crow is an ex-cop who enjoys a good game of cards. He's hired by a poker playing companion - the wonderfully named Dickie Wicky - to follow his wife Catfish, who he thinks is having an affair. Sounds simple enough, but then it doesn't take account of Joey Cadillac, his obedient muscle Freddy Wisnesky, and a pair of slippery conmen known as the Tom and Ben Show. This is a wonderful caper novel which has everyone pitted against everyone else in a bizarre and humourous confusion; sharp, witty dialogue, and larger than life characters. Fast, funny and furious.
