In Cold Rock, Minnesota, Barbaraanette Quinn cannot believe that she won the Powerball lottery worth $8.9 million. The TV reporter asked her what she plans to do with her cash. Without thinking, Barbaraanette announces that she is offering a $1 million award to anyone who can locate her missing spouse, Bobby, who left without a trace about six years ago.

Watching on TV in Arizona the announcement of the Powerball winner is Fiona "Phlox" Anderson and her boy friend Robert Steele, who informs her that he is actually Robert Steele Quinn. Bobby has purposely remained in hiding ever since he took the cash that his two partners and Barbaraanette had given him to invest in a dude ranch.. Now, it seems as if everyone sees an opportunity to make a quick buck even if it means kidnapping poor Bobby to earn it.

MRS. MILLION is a fabulous tale that will thrill readers who relish an offbeat novel. The story line never lets up, but as in all of Pete Hautman's delicious books, the eccentric characters control the plot. MRS. MILLION is no exception as Barbaraanette, her siblings, mother, Phlox, and the rest of Cold Rock bring a brilliant mystery to life.
