Tony Hillerman
Class/Genre:   Mystery   Ethnic
Series: Joe Leaphorn & Jim Chee # 17

All the favorite characters from Hillerman's series return - Joe Leaphorn, Jim Chee, Cowboy Dashee, and Bernie Maneulito. Hillerman returns to another event in the contemporary history of the American Southwest - the midair airplane crash in the Grand Canyon which occured in 1956.

Diamonds of extraordinary beauty and value have shown up in petty break-ins and pawnshop inventory, and we are not surprised when greedy men appear on the scene as well. In addition, a young woman also comes to the Northern Arizona area also seeking the diamonds, convinced that their existence can solve a long standing personal mystery of her own.

Leaphorn, Chee, Dashee, and Maneulito join the search primarily to clear the accusation against a member of the Hopi nation.

Not up to Hillerman's previous standards, unfortunately. Thin characterization and quickly moving action with little or no suspense.
