At Laurel Air Force Base in Mississippi, Colonel Jackson informs Cptain Tracey Keener that she will defend Captain Adam Burke who is charged with treason and murder. The evidence clearly leaves no doubt that the intel officer betrayed his country, leading to the death of his men. Adam tells his lawyer that he is not only innocent, but he has been set up as the scapegoat by a powerful conspiracy. Tracey may be his assigned Staff Judge Advocate attorney, but she does not believe her client and worries more about the impact on her career that this high visibiliy case will have.

However, Tracey begins to reconsider what Adam insists is the truth when he mysteriously dies and someone begins to threaten her life if she fails to drop her inquiry. Her supeirors also threaten her career if she fails to let go of the Burke case. Still, Tracey knows the value of life and integrity from a personal perspective. She continues to dig into the murky world of Intel, vowing to learn the truth even as she places herself in peril and her career in jeapardy.

When it comes to the military romance sub-genre, there are no SHADES OF GRAY that Vickie Hinze is one of the top guns. Her latest novel DUPLICITY has cross genre appeal to the legal thriller crowd as well as the militray romance audience. The storyline is crisp, action-packed, and filled with insight into the world of military justice and honor. Tracey is a wonderful character whose changing conflicits bring the novle into perspective. If justice prveails, Ms. Hinze will quickly reach the top of mutliple best selling lists.
