Chloe Larson was a young, beautiful blonde living in Bayside when an attack by a sociopath in a clown mask turns her world into a living nightmare in the middle of the night. The brutal rapist is never caught, although he continues to stalk Chloe afterward and pushes her to the brink of insanity.

Twelve years later, Florida Department of Law Enforcement Special Agent Dominick Falconetti is head of a task force searching for a vicious killer of young girls and CJ Townsend is the Assistant Chief assigned to the Major Crimes Unit in the Miami Dade State Attorney's office. A suspect is apprehended in a bizarre traffic stop and CJ sees and hears the suspect at his First Appearance Hearing. She instantly recognizes his voice as that of her attacker of twelve years earlier and her carefully constructed world threatens to fall apart once again.

CJ is caught in a peculiar set of circumstances. The statute of limitations on the crime in New York has expired. The man who attacked her can now never be tried for that crime. If she says anything to anyone about recognizing the suspect, she will be removed from the case and to bring someone else in this late risks losing the case; but CJ herself is barely able to hang on to her own balance with her attacker sitting across the courtroom from her.

‘Retribution' is graphic when it needs to be, but the story is CJ's. If you can suspend your disbelief just enough to accept the scenario, ‘Retribution' will keep you up all night. Multiple points of view are handled with skill, and the story never falters. The complications of the trial and the plot twists are perfectly timed. The real question is - do they have the right killer? This is one new author to put on your "watch list".

Author Jilliane Hoffman was an Assistant State Attorney and a Regional Legal Advisor for the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
