Series: Lew Fonesca # 3
Midnight Pass is Stuart M. Kaminskys third outing into the world
of Lew Fonesca. Lew is a Process Server who sometimes finds people
for extra cash. He arrived in Sarasota, Florida after his wife
died, and he is still wracked with grief. His depression is
severe but as the series progresses Lew tries to live a little more
each day. Kaminsky surrounds Lew with a great cast of wacky
characters an ex-child prostitute and her baby, their guardian
who is a sober alcoholic, a homeless man, and a man convicted of
fighting a dual. All of these friends help Lew to try and live
again, along with more conventional help from his psychologist and
platonic girlfriend.

In Midnight Pass, Lew is hired to find a dying man whose vote is needed in an important council vote. His search leads him to the mans wife a woman with a mysterious past and many names. She passes him on to another man, also with many names, as well as a psychotic bodyguard. As if that wasnt enough to keep Lew busy, he is also hired by an angry father whose wife has run off with his business partner and taken their kids. He wants Lew to find her and bring the kids home.

Both mysteries are perfectly weaved into Lews own life which Kaminsky portrays with amazing insight into the grief process. Kaminskys characters live and breathe on the page, truly complementing the story he sets out for them. Midnight Pass is a well written mystery and a good introduction to Kaminskys work for newcomers, and an excellent addition for fans of this and his other long-running series. Read it today.
