Series: Jackie Flowers # 2

Kane is an attorney, who lives in the Denver Colorado metropolitan area. She sets her situations in the Denver area, lending a pleasant air of authenticity to them.

Jackie Flowers is a criminal defense attorney, with several years of experience earned as a public employee before she turned to private practice. She harbors a secret which she shares with only a very small number of acquaintances. She is severely dislexic, and struggles to read and make sense of what she reads. She relies heavily on her competent paralegal to guide her through literary thickets and help her make sense out of the confusing jumble of printed pages.

In this entry, Jackie is approached by a law school professor who recognizes her skill (but doesn't know her secret). He has been accused of a gruesome kidnapping and murder. A young woman is found naked, wandering through the canyons west of Denver, wearing a dog collar around her neck, and severely wounded. She eventually dies of the effects of exposure, and an impressive list of circumstantial evidence points toward the judge.

As the pretrial investigation unfolds, and the trial itself takes place, Flowers and her client gradually learn to trust each other, and uncover the motives of the murderer behind the cruel scenario.
