I absolutely loved Silver’s Edge. This book had all of the best elements in a storyline. There was of course the fantasy part with the faeries, the goblins and various magic. The author also included action, romance and even a mystery or two. There was only one thing that I did not like about this book. On the last page at the very bottom there is this one little sentence that makes you want to scream! “To be continued…”
This book is about three worlds. There is the shadowlands as the sidhe call it, or Brynhyvar where the mortals live. There is the Otherworld as the mortals call it, or Tir Na’lugh where the sidhe or faeries live. Last and thus far least important is the wastelands where the goblins live. About a thousand years ago the sidhe queen, Gloriana, one of her advisors, Timias, and a mortal blacksmith, Bran Brownbeard created the Silver Caul. It served two purposes: to keep the Goblins out of the shadowlands and to keep silver out of the Otherworld. Silver is very poisonous to the sidhe. It is the queen’s magic that keeps the goblins out of Tir Na’lugh. Things are beginning to go wrong, though. A war is brewing in Brynhyvar and there is the possibility that the Silver Caul may be losing its power. The only person still left from the time of the making of the Caul is Timias. Gloriana’s daughter Alamandine has reigned for nearly 150 years adequately enough, but she does not have the power of her mother. She is pregnant and there is worry that it is weakening her ability to keep the goblins out of the Otherworld.
This book tells the story of many people, but the most prominent are three women. Nessa is a mortal who lost her mother as a baby and was raised by her father. He is a blacksmith and has taught her that skill. Cecily is the young wife of the Duke of Gar, and is right in the middle of the war. Then there is Delphinea who is a young sidhe. Raised in the country, she is forced to figure out the dynamics of the faerie court when her mother sends her to the palace to present a dire problem.
I will be waiting with baited breath for the next book and I intend to look for more books by this author. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this story and have already recommended it to several of my friends.
