Silver’s Edge is the story of three separate worlds the Shadowlands (inhabited by humans), Faerie (inhabited by the Sidhe or Faeries) and the Wastelands which are a part of Faerie (inhabited by the Goblins). These worlds are separated by very fine borders that have been kept intact for hundreds of years by the combination of Sidhe and Mortal magic and a Silver caul made by a human blacksmith and imbued with the magic. Silver is lethal to both the Sidhe and the Goblins.

Now someone has stolen the magic silver caul and the borders between these worlds are becoming thinner and this could be the destruction of all of these worlds. For example, if the border fails, the Goblins will once again be able to hunt and feed off of the humans in the Shadowlands and become much stronger.

Three young women are the main characters in the book. Nessa is the daughter of a blacksmith, who has taught her his skills, as her Mother was lost to the Otherworld of the Sidhe when she was just an infant. Delphinea is a Faerie of noble birth who has come to the Faerie Court for her first appearance to beg for the Queen’s help with problems in their area of Faerie. Cecily is a mortal woman married to a lord who is an heir to the throne and in grave danger and she may have to take his place if he is lost when war breaks out in the Shadowlands.

As I am generally more of a mystery reader I was surprised at how much I liked this book. The characters and worlds were very interesting. My only problem with the book was when I was really getting into it and had finally got all of the characters straight in my mind and understood the significance of the silver caul; I got to the final page to read To Be Continued…

If I had not enjoyed the book so much, I would have lowered my rating for the book having no real ending. I left my rating alone though and very much look forward to the next book in the series.
