Jonathan Kellerman
Class/Genre:   Mystery
2003, 376 pgs.

Kellerman veers away from his Alex Delaware series and introduces a new character Dr. Jeremy Carrier who is a staff psychologist at City Central Hospital (which I assume is in Chicago although I am not sure). Dr. Carrier’s former lover Jocelyn Banks was kidnapped and brutally murdered six months earlier and Dr. Carrier is haunted by her memory and haunted by a detective who suspects Dr. Carrier of the murder.

Dr. Arthur Chess, a pathologist, seeks out Dr. Carrier and introduces him to a society devoted to the unknown and unspoken. Dr. Carrier receives anonymous articles and hints, which send him on a search for the killer of Jocelyn Banks as well as the murders of some prostitutes that, have followed the same pattern.

He becomes involved with a coworker at the hospital and eventually begins to fear for her life and he becomes obsessed with the clues sent to him and with finding the killer.

I found the book to be disjointed and very difficult to follow. I would not look forward to another book of this type from Mr. Kellerman.
