Taking a break from his highly regarded Max Freeman series, King serves up a stand alone. Nick Mullins is a journalist in southern Florida, where he finds ample material for his feature stories on various criminal investigations. A series of sniper attacks in the area draws his interest, and to the consternation of the local police Nick discovers several important facts before they do.

For several years, Nick has been struggling with his grief after his wife and one of his daughters died in a collision with a drunken driver. As he follows the trail of the sniper investigation, he gradually begins to find a balance between his role as a single father to his surviving daughter and his work as a reporter.

As in King's earlier books, the reader knows early on who the killer is and understands the motivation for the crimes. The game of "cat and mouse" heightens the suspense. By giving the reader a view from both sides of the hunt, EYE OF VENGEANCE also raises several ethical questions which are not easily answered.

Another terrific read from King!
