A Cold Summer Night is the first book in the Trouble in Forest duology. It is a story set in Medieval times in England. Sherwood Forest has become a place of grave danger. Now it is not only filled with the normal outlaws but the new outlaws that have taken over the forest are vampires. No one is safe whether soldier, merchant, priest or nun traveling the woods at night or in times of darkness.

Former Crusader Hugh deSteny is the Sheriff of Nottingham and he is the only one who truly understands what they are up against and the only one with a chance of winning a war against these outlaws. He has seen what they are capable when in the Crusades in Greece. Now the future is in his hands.

This was a good quick read however I did not realize until I had finished the book that it was the first of two and had no ending. Therefore, my rating may have been higher if I had realized this in advance and had both books to finish off the story. However what I did read in the first book was quite interesting and gave one a real feel for the times and how everyone had a certain station in life and believed that God would save them from everything. I would recommend this to people who enjoy Medieval fantasy however I would suggest they wait until they have both books or they will be left hanging.
