Michael Koryta
Class/Genre: Mystery Private Investigator
Series: Lincoln Perry and Joe Pritchard
Koryta is still a college student, which makes this debut novel all the more remarkable. Already a winner for Best First Novel from the Private Eye Writers of America, he has now been nominated for the prestigious Edgar Award as well.
Lincoln Perry is a former cop, dismissed from the force in disgrace, who has joined another former cop to work in their own private investigative services. They have spent their time working relatively mundane insurance investigations, and expect their futures to continue in the same manner as their recent pasts. However the father of a man who died of a gunshot wound in odd circumstances approaches them to discover the true facts behind his death, and their days are suddenly not very mudane at all.
Action moves from a wintry Cleveland Ohio to the beaches of South Carolina and back again. Conniving wealthy lawyers, vicious Russian mobsters, and hardened former Marines join the hunt. A beautiful young widow and her charming little daughter are moved as pawns on a chessboard, but perhaps the pawns hold more power than the other players realize.
Koryta is a worthy new addition to the ranks of writers producing private investigator tales. I hope we meet Lincoln Perry again!
