Make room for Harley Jane Kozak on the shelves. In her highly entertaining debut novel Ms. Kozak reminds me of why Steph Plumb is such a successful mystery franchise. Dating Dead Men is a story of serial dating, the greeting card business, and a dead body.

Wollie Shelley is an L.A. artist/business woman who will win your heart. In her first mystery Wollie literally drives up to her first corpse She’s on an emergency visit to her hospitalized brother when she finds the body in the road. She’s pretty sure that it’s not a natural death due to the angle of the bullet hole. And here the reader’s fun begins.

With a deft hand the author introduces us to the characters who’ll be part of this new mystery series, the swarthy stranger who wins Wollie’s heart and a ferret who may well starve to death in her care. An entertaining read where the mystery is concise and well plotted yet somehow beside the point this is a great read with which to chase those winter blues away.
