Quiet Storm, 2004, $15.95, 268 pp.

This anthology contains numerous short and extremely short tales (did not count and until now never realized the value of a table of contents as none was provided) that run the gamut of the mystery-suspense-thriller orbs. Readers should envision overlapping logic circles sort of like the Olympic rings but three not five sub-genres. The tales for the most part are well written and contain a surprising, sometimes paranormal twist reminiscent of the half-hour non science fiction twilight Zone episodes so keep the lights on all night. Though some of the contributors like Michael Bracken are well known, most are not. Thus this exciting well written compilation provides readers with an opportunity to meet and taste the works of new authors that they might miss otherwise. Anyone looking for the next Phillip Marlowe need not look much further as this is a wonderful anthology with a few B&W cartoons that enhance the book. Readers will appreciate these fine tales and the additional information including links to author pages and a listing of other writings by the authors as DIME is no one read “quiet storm”.
