When homicide inspector Bradley Lyon and his wife, Ashleigh, leave San Francisco for the Shenandoah Valley, they continue their previous 'hobby' of collecting and crafting lovable Teddy bears. When a local museum director is murdered, the two occupations become combined and they find themselves trying to track down a counterfeit Teddy bear organization.

When their house is broken into and one of their most prized, valuable, antique bears is stolen, robbery seems the motive . . . but nothing was stolen from the museum. And what on earth are yakuza [Japanese gangsters] doing in their sleepy little town?

I'm not a cozy reader much any more. And cutesy titles leave me cold. This one is a welcome, unexpected exception to the rule and I was totally taken in by this 'well-crafted' story as well as the information about the beloved Teddy bears I cherish from my childhood, one of which is 58 years old and is almost ready to become 'real' because most of his fur is gone. John Lamb definitely puts his prior experience and obvious talent to good use in this fascinating look into the world of Teddy bears even without the dessert of a good murder mystery to keep things moving!
