Series: Port Silva # 8

In fictional Port Silva, California, Patience Smith and daughter Verity run a small detective agency. A childhood friend asks Verity to clear her grandfather¹s name. Years ago he had committed suicide after being accused of molesting small children.

La Pierre is good at portraying characters who are interesting and complex, with realistic relationships. Unfortunately she seems a slow starter, explaining thought processes unnecessarily while failing to clarify relationships. It takes 164 pages for the investigation to heat up to a suspicious death.

If you persevere beyond the slow pace you will be rewarded with a plausible tale and even a bit of excitement at the climax.

These books are probably best read in order.
