Above Suspicion is the story of rookie detective, Anna Travis and her move to the homicide squad where the first case she is assigned to is that of a serial killer. He kills all of his victims and they have all been prostitutes until his latest victim. She is young, innocent teenager that happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Anna is wonderful character and vividly described by Lynda La Plante, to where you actually feel as if you know Anna. She is incredibly nervous and does not want to fail as her hero was her father, who was also a homicide cop. She is suddenly thrust into the middle of a serial murder investigation where Anna stumbles upon clues that help to start breaking the case or may send them after the wrong man.

The suspect is an increasingly popular actor, Alan Daniels, whose career would be in shreds if there suspicions were made public and everything they have against him is circumstantial. He immediately shows an attraction for Anna which at times she reciprocates. However, fear lurks in the back of her mind and a profiler has told them that if he is their man, he is using Anna and insuating himself into her life to try to get the inside scoop on the investigation.

Anna goes through a great deal in this novel. First she is trying to fit in with a team of seasoned detectives, she may be being used as bait for a serial killer and she has a crush on her new boss, Detective Chief Inspector Langton.

Above Suspicion was a great read for those of you who enjoy serial killer novels. I look forward to reading more of Lynda La Plante’s novels. I enjoyed not knowing until the very end whether or not they had the right man and if they would be able to stop him and if Anna would survive the case.
