Jessie Morton is working on her doctorate by studying a variety of medieval crafts at a Renaissance Faire. This summer she is studying basket weaving in the Gullah fashion ... not exactly renaissance but interesting to learn how to make the beautiful containers. When a body is found Jessie tries to solve the mystery.

The faire offers an unusual setting for the strange goings-on here. And some characters are interesting. Still a major suspension of disbelief is necessary to accept a faire with such a seemingly nonsensical collection of characters. And Jessie’s behavior seems silly in a college professor as she tries to pin the crime on a variety of characters using TV crime shows as her inspiration.

The best part of this book is the explanation of Gullah weaving. Would-be basket makers will be inspired.
