Dolphins have become an obsession for Bobby, Steve’s nephew. Bobby has some behavior problems linked to his abusive past. Bobby is very intelligent and feels he is on the verge of being able to speak Dolphin lingo. This fascination has prompted Bobby to slip out at night to visit his Dolphin friends, Spunky and Misty.

Steve is spending a pleasant evening with Victoria Lord, his partner in his law office and his partner in his personal life, when he is interrupted by a phone call from Wayne Grisby, owner of Spunky and Misty. It seems he has caught Bobby talking to the two dolphins.

When Steve arrives, he finds that Bobby is there but there is a dolphin kidnapping in process. At Bobby’s urging Steve, takes chase but the dolphins get away and before the evening is over one man is dead. One man is captured and that man winds up as Steve’s client. His client is charged with murder.

Meanwhile, without Steve’s knowledge, Victoria is appointed special prosecutor to proceed against Steve’s client. This conflict of interest carries over to their personal life and there is pretty much of a cold war going on for a while.

Bobby dwells on Spunky and Misty’s disappearance. Steve dwells on how to get his client free, make things right with Victoria and finally yet importantly, help Bobby improve his playing on his ball team.

This is the fourth book in the Solomon and Lord series and I think each book is better than the last.
