Karen Glick returns in “Fear & Greed,” the second Lawrence Light mystery. She has been put back on “fluff” interviews, and has just finished a feature article on the Reiner sisters. The trio has had immense success with the stock market and has risen in wealth and popularity. What they do not share in the article is they have created a computer program that predicts the market, and that is what has created their fortune.

The computer program, however, has become common knowledge, and Florence Reiner is murdered. Karen steps in to do a follow-up article, more of an investigative report. She has already gained the trust of Linda and Ginny Reiner, but she finds that she also must work as their protector. And she must protect herself. From the casino baron, the government, the Russian mafia and whoever else is trying to get the computer and kill her and the sisters.

“Fear & Greed” has a great plot and super characters. The story tends to drag a little, though and it is difficult to empathize with some of the characters. Karen begins to have more personality than in the first novel. She shows her cooking skills, and leads the Reiner sisters, but she continues to be in others’ shadows.

Again, a great premise, and Karen Glick is a super character to follow!
