Lawrence Light debuts with “Too Rich to Live,” introducing Karen Glick as a profile writer who is trying to move into investigative reporting. Armed with a friend/co-worker who has all kinds of contacts, and recent-divorce-infused passion to succeed, Karen decides not to start small, but takes on the Billionaire Boys Club. She has found tax fraud information about the powerful club that she plans to make public, but as she begins her investigation, she finds that a radical group is also targeting them. But the group is targeting them for murder, and she may get in their way, and find herself dead.

Mr. Light has started a series that he can build upon. Karen Glick has plenty of room to grow, and relationships to create. The central focus needs to be on building her and those around her, unlike in “Too Rich to Live” where one of antagonists is the most interesting and/or colorful character. The story was creative with the author’s financial background in evidence. Mr. Light can definitely continue to write about Karen Glick and develop her into an entertaining series.
