Durham, North Carolina is Kate Gallagher’s destination. She is traveling from Boston to Durham to attend a diet clinic. Kate decided to go to Durham which has been publicized as the Diet Capitol of the World. Kate’s job as a TV producer in Boston had ended a couple of weeks ago. Her relationship with Mack her boyfriend ended about the same time.
Kate has a beautiful face for TV but could stand to lose some pounds so she headed to Durham. Kate had worked out a deal with a local TV station to do a show on The Hoffman Clinic which is where she had decided to practice dieting.
She does get to do a show and more than one at that but not because she excelled in dieting. She had hardly gotten settled at The Hoffman Clinic before she ran across a corpse. The TV station was thrilled because they had a person inside the clinic to feed them news. Kate wasn’t quite as thrilled with the job. People kept checking out of the clinic and soon there were only a few left. Kate also received a few threatening messages.
This didn’t stop Kate and she kept right on investigating. Detective Jonathan Reed was also a welcome distraction but Kate kept ignoring all of his good advice.
I liked all of the characters in the book. The Little Book of Fat –Busters by Kate’s friend Mimi Morgan offered some pretty good and off the wall hints for dieters. Dying To Be Thin is a good mystery and the author did surprise me with her ending.
